Welcome to Ubuntu Campus

Ubuntu Campus is a building exercise at the rural area of Macha Mission, Choma District, Southern Province, Zambia. Buildings are planned for LinkNet, MICS, and Flying Mission. In a large area many houses, infrastructure for water, electricity , transport and communications are planned and being worked on. This site contains insight in planning, ongoing work, tasks at hand, and the like. See developments as they grow!

Rondavel 1 and 2 Officially Opened

Rondavels 1 and 2 are ready! Dr. Jan Nouwen, Erasmus MC, Head Infectious Diseases, Rotterdam Netherlands, and Dr. Charles Boucher, Erasmus MC, performed the official opening at Ubuntu Campus. They were among the first guests using the two Rondavels during their visit to MIAM and the Works at Macha.

The Macha community highly praised the Rondavels. They look stunning with their distinct features like grassroofs, and their location in natural and untouched rural surroundings.

LITA 1 Officially Opened

The first building for LinkNet Information Technology Academy has been completed and is today officially opened. Mr. Evans Lampi, UNZA Head of Department Computer Sciences, and Mr. Reuben Munungwe, IEEE Chairman Section Zambia together opened LITA 1, attended by Zambian engineers and the local community.

The building is the first in a series at Ubuntu Campus, providing for housing for UNZA, LITA, according to plans and cooperations.

With over 20 full time staff and 100 contractors, pay day at Ubuntu Building Activities is always a major event!

Building Impression

Despite record breaking havoc wrecking rains during this rainy season, building activities do continue in Macha. There is great demand for infrastructure for Vision Community Center (now to facilitate Vision Radio Macha) and MICS (to house classrooms). Also lodging facilities are critically needed, and much more. Just an impression of activities:

ZESCO connection to Ubuntu Campus paid

Today, ZMK 97,158,789 was paid by bank-certified cheque to ZESCO for the connection of Ubuntu Campus according to attached pro-forma. These works include the extention of the 11 kV line over about 3 kilometers to Ubuntu Campus and putting up of a step down transformer to three phase 230 volt. Installation works will commence after 12 (twelve) weeks to facilitate materials acquisition and other preparations at ZESCO.
